Short and full-length fiction, documentary and animated films and their creators can be nominated for the award. Only independent movies, created without any participation of state funds of the regimes of Belarus or Russia, are eligible for the second edition of the award.
A professional jury of 16 film critics, journalists, and researchers will determine the winners in the following nominations: Best Fiction Feature Film, Best Fiction Short Film, Best Feature Documentary Film, Best Short Documentary Film, Best Animated Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, Best Production Design, Best Sound Design, Discovery of the Year.
Irena Katsialovich and Taras Tarnalitski are heading the award’s team of film critics and are the organizers of the second Red Heather Award.
"We see the creative potential of independent cinema and we would like to use our award to highlight its potential and importance," remarks the team of the award, "Modern filmmakers are and are going to remain an integral part in capturing our troubled times and helping us live through them. Film critics present awards at the largest European film festivals, their expert opinion is behind a number of well-known awards, and we hope that Red Heather will become the national award to track the development of Belarusian cinema and create its context. Perhaps, our award will become an additional incentive to continue making films despite the difficulties."
You can submit your entries for the second edition of Red Heather from September 14 to October 14 on a special page on the award's website. Only films that are eligible for the award will be included in the long list for consideration by the jury. Read more about the requirements of the award on its rules and regulation page.
The winners of the second Red Heather will be announced in February 2024.
